A Company With Heritage
Specialised Castings is the
only Iron Foundry left in the Falkirk area, the area which
was the birthplace of the Scottish Foundry Industry and
at one time hosted scores of foundries.
Specialised Castings can trace
its history back to the second ever foundry to be set up
in the Falkirk Area - Falkirk Iron Works which was formed
in 1819 by workers from Carron Iron Works. The company passed
through several owners over the years remaining on the original
Falkirk site until 1981 when it moved to the site of the
old Dobbies Foundry in Foundry Loan Larbert. By this time
it was owned by Falcon Catering equipment, part of the Glynwed
Group. It became known as Falcon Castings, initially producing
light iron and alloy iron castings for its parent company
as well as components for its sister company the world famous
heating and cooking manufacturer Aga based in Coalbrookdale
in Shropshire.
It was at this time it was
decided to use the expertise of its workforce and return
to the manufacture of engineering castings for external
customers. Falcon castings continued to produce high quality
Engineering Castings and light iron and aluminium castings
until its parent Company decided in 2001
to consolidate all its foundry production to its
coalbrookdale foundry and buy castings from global producers.
After a management buyout,
the Falcon plant and equipment as well as the cream of the
Falcon workforce moved to new premises in an old paper mill
in nearby Denny where Specialised Castings Ltd was born
and continues to grow to this day producing high quality
castings for a wide variety of customers.
